Sarah Corbett: Sylvia Plath: The West Yorkshire Poems

    Saturday 28th September 2024 • Hebden Bridge Town Hall • 7:30pm • £10 • BOOK NOW

Hebden Bridge-based poet and author Dr Sarah Corbett explores Sylvia Plath’s relationship to West Yorkshire and its landscape through poems such as November Graveyard, Wuthering Heights and Hardcastle Crags, written in response to her visits to Heptonstall and Howarth in the 1950’s and early 1960’s. She will also discuss how Plath has influenced her own work, and After Sylvia, the anthology of poems published by Nine Arches Press in 2022 to coincide with The Sylvia Plath Literary Festival.

Sarah Corbett is a writer and academic. She has published five collections of poetry, including the verse-novel And She Was (2015), and A Perfect Mirror (2018). She is co-editor of After Sylvia: Poems and Essays in Celebration of Sylvia Plath (2022), and produced and directed the Sylvia Plath Literary Festival in 2022. Sarah is Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Lancaster University and lives in Hebden Bridge. Her new collection of poems, The Ishtar Gate, is forthcoming from Pavilion Poetry in 2025.
