Pam Warhurst CBE: From Seeds to solutions. Incredible Edible, how it all began and where it’s going.
Saturday, 17th January 2026 • Hebden Bridge Town Hall
Pam Warhurst CBE is a community leader, TedX speaker, activist and environment worker, best known for founding the
voluntary gardening initiative, Incredible Edible.
Pam will share the story of how a simple idea in Todmorden grew into a global movement. She co-founded Incredible Edible to show what happens when communities choose to work together, grow food in shared spaces, support local producers, and take practical steps toward a better future. What began as a few planters on a Yorkshire street has become a recognised model for grassroots action, resilience, and civic pride.

Pam will talk frankly about why she started the project, the concerns about the future that shaped her thinking, and how ordinary residents proved that small acts can shift relationships between people and the places they live. She’ll explore what Incredible Edible has achieved across the UK and in countries around the world, and what it tells us about community power at a time when many feel discouraged.
She’ll also look ahead. Where is the movement going next? How can towns adapt to climate, food and economic pressures by working together instead of waiting for top-down solutions? And what role can each of us play in shaping a more connected, generous and sustainable local landscape?
By the end of the evening, you’ll understand how this idea spread so far, why it matters, and how any community can start its own version.
